Festuca 'Elijah Blue' And You
Lois Woodhull founder of The Plantage lost her battle with breast cancer in 1997. To honor her valiant struggle with this disease The Plantage is donating a percentage of the proceeds of the sale of Festuca g. 'Elijah Blue' to research to finding a cure for breast cancer.
Lois was travelling in the mountains of South America when she came across the extraordinary blue hue of a small ornamental grass. Intrigued, she brought this cultivar of Festuca back to America. Lois trialed Festuca in her private gardens to test the plant’s stability and hardiness. She eventually propagated and named this variety 'Elijah Blue'.
In 2001 Lois was awarded the international Hardy Plant Union Outstanding Plant Award in 1996, recognizing her introduction of Festuca 'Elijah Blue' as an important staple in our industry. We would like to recognize her tenacity and perseverance as well.
The 2007 Chelsea Flower show featured Festuca g. 'Elijah Blue' in its Amnesty International Garden for Human Rights display.
It’s an unfortunate fact that all of us have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another. Please reserve your crop of Festuca g. 'Elijah Blue' today. Not only will you be getting what’s widely recognized as the sturdiest, most vibrant blue fescue grass available, we will all be helping to fight against breast cancer.
